Welcome to the

YMCA of Elkhart County

The YMCA of Elkhart County strengthens the foundations of our community through well-being and fitness, camps, family time, swim, sports and play, and other activities for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. We’re more than just a place to work out. At the Y, we help build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all with the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at the heart of everything we do.

With a commitment to nurturing youth development, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility, the Y ensures that every individual has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive.

NEWS FROM THE Y
Did you know that according to about.com, 83% of all cheerleaders have a 'B' grade point average or better? Cheerleading not only builds confidence, agility and team work skills, but also can help your youth perform better in school.

Whether it's cheerleading, gymnastics or swimming, it's important for your youth to be active and build their social skills through peer interaction. That's where the Y can help!

With the start of the new 2012 year our gymnastics program has introduced cheerleading and "tumble only" to the list of classes available! We also offer young cheer for ages 4-7 and cheer for ages 7-14.

Our cheerleaders are learning cheers, chants, tumbling and a dance to perform at upcoming events. Our cheerleaders did cheer for the YMCA all stars basketball games and will be cheering at soccer and flag football games in the month of March. This experience will help prepare many of our cheerleaders for more competitive programs as they grow older, however, all who participate will take something positive away.

Coordination and teamwork are skills necessary for success in cheerleading and in life. Remember when children participate in Y sports, including cheerleading, they are building habits for a healthy future.
