Each month we focus on the positive character aspects of our employees, incredible members and volunteers who more than deserve recognition. The Y staff nominates a fellow co-worker, member or volunteer that has exhibited exceptional caring, responsibility or respect to other staff, members or volunteers. Three plaques hang in the Welcome Center of the Y with the picture of each month's nominees.

If you visit our Y pool often you've probably noticed there is at least one person in the area watching over and keeping swimmers and their families safe while they enjoy their workout or family time in the water. This person would be the lifeguard.

Here at the Y there is always at least one guard on duty watching the pool when it's open for swimming, no matter what.

But what we saw happen was a memorable surprise.

With that said, we strive to give our youth the tools they need to make healthy choices for their future. Elkhart Gerneral Hospital's Community Outreach Program is helping us do just that by holding nutritional classes for our Y kids.

We're giving a shout out for our young ladies who stepped up their game with the fellas and had a great time playing in the co-ed league.

Here at the Y, two of our focus areas are for youth development and healthy living. Our competitive team sports embody both of these principles. Through physical activity and self-discipline, our Elky Seahorse swim team allows those who participate to learn positive, useful skills that will lead to brighter futures. This past December our swim team traveled to the Ft. Wayne YMCA to participate in the FWCY Holiday Invitational. Our swimmers took home 3rd place in the event. Way to go Seahorses!
